June Diary July 2008

During the first week of June, Mary and I took off in the motor home for a few days up in the Cairngorms near the Rothiemurchus estate where Simon King has been reporting for the BBC program Springwatch.

Hardly an epic journey for us , it’s only a seventy-five minute drive from Blair Atholl but staying in the heart of the Glenmore forest park ,surrounded by the mountains gave us the opportunity to get as close to nature that is possible. Returning home it has also given us the greatest pleasure to follow the Springwatch program and to see again many of the places we visited and some of the wildlife we had seen the week before.
That said we need only to take a three minute walk from the cottage to be able to watch a variety of summer visitors (some of the feathered kind ) plus resident Red Squirrels, Fallow Deer, Red Deer to name but a few.
The weather for June faltered a little and after six or seven weeks of days almost undiluted of sunshine the last two weeks became very mixed but without a little rain we wouldn’t have the wonderful colours in the scenery that we enjoy so much.
Aside from our small trip away we much enjoyed the Atholl gathering and Highland Games and look forward to upcoming events to take place in July which will include Dawn & Dusk Land Rover safari tours on Atholl Estates and many other excursions, Highland nights and a choice of five different plays at the renowned Pitlochry Festival theatre.

April Showers April 2008

April has arrived and true to form has provided plenty of showers and many spells of sunshine, though a lot of the showers have consisted of snow. The surrounding high tops looked beautiful basking in the sunny spells. >
